Reggae icon Toots Hibbert is currently recuperating and is expected to resume touring soon after completing a recent throat surgery.
The singer’s reps confirmed with Urban Islandz that he is doing well and is expected to honor upcoming tour dates within a few weeks.
In September of last year, Toots was forced to cancelled two shows on the British leg of his tour due to throat complications. He later underwent surgery to correct those complications, that was not disclosed by his reps.
Toots, who is one of the biggest touring reggae acts of the last decade, is gearing up to release his Reggae Got Soul documentary on DVD. The package also includes a special acoustic performance by the singer.
Toots, real name Frederick Hibbert, was born in Clarendon and rose to fame in the 1960s, when he and his backup group the Maytals recorded for various producers like Clement Dodd, Byron Lee and Leslie Kong.
Some of their greatest hits were with Kong, the first producer to record Bob Marley and the man behind the success of Derrick Morgan and Desmond Dekker. Songs such as 54-46, Monkey Man and Pressure Drop are reggae staples that remain popular with fans worldwide, were recorded by Kong.
In 2005 Toots won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album
