Rashaun “Black Kush” McAnuff visits Trench Town, the fabled community that has produced a number of legendary artistes such as The Wailers (which included Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer), The Heptones, Alton Ellis and Delroy Wilson.

True to his Rastafarian beliefs, Rashaun “Kush” McAnuff brings spirituality to everything he does — whether he is singing and playing drums for the Uprising Roots Band, or giving back to the community.

The affable Kush recently embarked on a reaching-out tour of urban communities in Jamaica. Communities which have suffered from governmental and humanitarian neglect. He hopes to reach mainly discouraged and marginalized youth who have lost hope.

His trek started in Southborough, a working-class neighbourhood in Portmore, a sprawling municipality on the outskirts of Kingston, Jamaica’s capital. The next stop was Trench Town. Jamaica’s music Mecca. There, he communed, shared musical equipment and lessons, played football with area youths, encourage unification and that they stay the straight and narrow path. Spreading the universal language of LOVE.
