I last saw Skip Marley perform in 2015 at the age of 19, opening up for uncles Stephen and Damian Marley. He has matured so much in that time, not only physically (especially the length of his dreads) but also with his presence on stage and the way he controls the crowd. I love watching these young artists grow and mature. He came out to Lions and instantly had the sold-out crowd wrapped up in his song, dancing and singing along. As he worked his way through his own songs and mixing in Bob Marley songs, his presence became more profound. The crowd was captivated, signing, dancing, recording and just enjoying themselves. I even spotted his mom, Cedella Marley, off to the side of the stage singing along and dancing to each song. He performed 15 songs before his encore, including Cry to Me, Coming In From The Cold, Refugee, War/No More Trouble, That’s Not True, Vibe and finishing off with Slow Down, which the crowd simply loved. We want more, we want more…..the crowd got more with his encore of Redemption Song and Could You Be Loved. There were times during the night that it seemed as though Bob was right there with him on stage guiding him through, especially while performing Redemption Song. Overall a great night that the entire crowd loved. I heard many in the crowd talk about similarities between Skip and his grandfather, and I would agree.
