They toured the UK as The Bees in 1967, released their self-titled debut album as UK ska band The Pyramids in 1968, recorded numerous singles as Seven Letters in 1969, and conquered the world as Symarip (consisting of Monty Naismith, Ray Ellis, Michael Thomas, Joshua Roberts, and Frank Pitter) with their 1970 album ‘Skinhead Moonstomp‘. The success of “Skinhead Moonstomp’ led to the release in 1970 of an album of the same name, including versions of Roland Alphonso’s ‘Phoenix City’ as ‘Phoenix Reggae’, Nancy Sinatra’s ‘These Boots Are Made For Walking’, ‘Fung Shu’ and ‘Skinhead Girl’. The single was re-pressed in response to the interest engendered in the skinhead era during the 2-Tone craze.
The pioneers of Skinhead Reggae sold millions with anthems like ‘Skinhead Moonstomp’ and ‘Skinhead Girl’ and their songs were covered by hundreds of bands including The Specials, Judge Dread and Bad Manners.
This is the first time their songs recorded as Seven Letters are collected on one album. This LP, released by Aggrobeat Records, is pressed on heavy-weight recycled eco vinyl, remastered, and includes an insert with extensive liner notes.
