DMac Burns presents new single Breakdown. Stylistically, the song is reggae with a rocksteady feel and hints of old school r&b in the vocal harmony arrangements. There is also an odd detuned lead guitar element lurking in the background giving it some lofi indie touches.
“Breakdown was inspired by the concept of a person or people transferring their own pain onto someone else, making the new person a scapegoat for their unresolved trauma. This causes a breakdown for all parties involved. The lead voice in the song sees this and wants to fight the injustice, but loses his mind in the process. I think we all experience and witness scenes like this in our personal lives and on a world wide scale. These days, it feels like the structures and systems that society is built on are all breaking down. It’s painful and sad, but perhaps it is necessary. It means that things can be rebuilt. On the other side of darkness is light”, explains DMac Burns.
The same collaborators participated in the single as in the recent releases of the New York artist based in Ireland, both the Pulse EP and the single Silent Prayer. Together with Danny McDonald (DMac Burns) on voice and guitar and the Argentinian Matías Saldivia on keyboards, Rocky Russo hits the bass, Seth Nicholson the drums and backing vocals and Glik (El Natty Combo) the percussion. Finally, the Brazilians Paulo de Viveiro, Marcelo Freitas and Javier Gomes, play the trumpet, the saxophone and the trombone respectively. Tracking took place in New York, Cork, Buenos Aires and São Paulo, and the mix is again signed by Victor Rice.
Breakdown is available on digital platforms.
