Following the releases of his previous albums “Tower Of Babel” (2021) and ‘Happy Place‘ (2023), renowned artist Proverb Nesta I has released a powerful and deeply personal album entirely in his native Shona language. This project marks a milestone, as every track is sung in Shona, allowing listeners a direct insight into Zimbabwean culture and the artist’s journey.
“This album is so personal to me,” shares Proverb Nesta I with World A Reggae. “Not only is it a first in my language, but it’s also a narrative shared by my people. Zimbabweans are resilient, hardworking, and deeply spiritual, and I speak to all these qualities in this album.”
The album’s title track, SHURA (meaning “strange” or “odd”), challenges societal ills, encouraging discussions on vital issues. MUDZIMU UNOYERA translates to “Holy Spirit,” expressing unwavering faith in the Most High, while UCHENJERI (“wisdom”) delves into qualities like altruism, humility, and compassion. Other standout tracks include MAPAPIRO (“wings”), highlighting the dangers of ignorance, and CHANGAMIRE NDIANI (“who is the master/judge?”), a love song questioning who is worthy of judging the heart’s desires.
The album also addresses perseverance in life’s challenges through SIRIVHA NENDARAMA (“silver and gold”) and culminates with ACHAUYA (“He will come”), a song about the hope that peace, personified, will come and better our days.
Produced in Zimbabwe, SHURA involved contributions from top talent at Zunde Records and 579Music Studios, with cover art by Zutography. The album’s production and collaborations reflect a global and local mix of talent, including input from Buss Dem Big, Ras Manga (JA), and Bruce Bronx (Zim).
SHURA is now available on all major streaming platforms, inviting reggae fans worldwide to explore Zimbabwean culture through the profound, poetic vision of Proverb Nesta I.
