Floyd West (born December 13, 1980), also known as the Pied Piper, has a superb talent and is able to captivate his audience through his lyrical prowess and use of catchy metaphors and wit.
Floyd attended Bridge Port high school before transferring to Kingston technical. It was during his time in high school that Floyd discovered his love for music, dub and drama, and he won several awards at the Annual Jamaican Culture and Development Commission Festivals. After high school Floyd joined a band, known as the Gremlin Crew. He bounced around between several big studios such a Penthouse Records and Sly and Robbie where he found his mentor, the late Philip Linton, owner and operator of Arrows Studio. Floyd tried his hand at several jobs before receiving a break in music. In 2000 he enrolled briefly in the Jamaica Defense Force before leaving to continue his musical dream in 2005.
On stage, Floyd’s theatrical secondary school training, makes him the master his space, resulting in complete captivation. Even if you have never heard Floyd West, you leave his performances a FAN. Although fairly new to the industry, Floyd has won several youth competitions hosted by the JIDC. He is a staple act at the monthly Jamnesia Live music nights- Floyd West Live – , and has shared the stage with big acts such as Raging Fire and Protoje. Recently he performed alongside Alaine at “Seh Sup’m” and received rave reviews from the Gleaner. In 2010, Floyd got a major break on STING, and was described by the Observer as one of the new conscious music acts to look out for in 2011. Earlier this summer, Floyd did first overseas shows and perform at sold out club venues in Bahamas and Haiti.
Most recently Floyd was given a 30minute feature on BET-Centric (FLOYD on Centric) and his music videos are now in rotation on the network through the Caribbean music program called SPLASH.
His music videos and songs- REASONS , RUN COME & AFFECTION – have been getting great support and rotation through IRIE FM , HYPE TV and RETV.
