This year, anticipation for Tosh Fest 2024 was high, with a renewed campaign to carry on the legacy of the Stepping Razor Peter Tosh. Niambe Tosh, Daughter of Peter Tosh, has dedicated herself to this mission for the past 14 years, as she mentioned in her presentation at the University Of The West Indies at the Peter Tosh Talks.
In addition to speaking about her father’s legacy, music, and his advocacy for the legalization of the herb, Niambe announced plans this evening to collaborate with Minister Olivia Grange’s ministry to officially recognize October 19th as National Peter Tosh Day in Jamaica.
Other speakers at the Peter Tosh Talks were Copeland Forbes, Allan ‘Skill” Cole, Dr. Nadia Nadongo Fynn, and Clyde McKenzie. They all shared memories and/or anecdotes on the Stepping Razor.
As said earlier, Tosh Fest raised the bar this year, moving from the Blue Ocean Venue to Natty’s Ocean View Entertainment Centre in Farm, Whitehouse, Westmoreland. Despite the afternoon’s heavy rainfall turning the event into a “mud fest,” the organizers worked hard to restore the venue, ensuring it was ready for an incredible lineup. The show featured local talents, as well as Samory I, Sevana, Ras I, Yaksta, Andrew Tosh & Kenny Vanella, with the night closed off by headliner Sizzla. We cannot go around in a special mention for Belmont local ‘Rider’, who took the stage with his mission to make some money from the crowd.
Videos of the event can be seen on our Instagram account. We are already looking for the 2025 edition.
