Kenyatta “Culture” Hill is a remarkable reggae artist, born in the shadow of his father, Joseph Hill, the founder and lead singer of the iconic Jamaican trio Culture. The death of Joseph in 2006, in the middle of a European tour, marked a turning point in Kenyatta’s life. At that time, he was merely the band’s sound technician, but he courageously stepped forward to take on his father’s vocal role, quickly capturing the attention of fans, promoters, and critics worldwide. He has since made his mark as a solo artist. On Sunday, October 27, you can see him live at Patronaat!
Kenyatta’s unexpected leap to the forefront demonstrated more than just his dedication; it also showcased his inherent talent and passion for music. His debut album, Pass The Torch, released in 2007, marked his official entry into the music world. The album, which features both unfinished songs of his father and his own creations, was supported by musical giants such as Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. With his album Riddim Of Life, Kenyatta proved that he was not only the heir to his father’s legacy but also a full-fledged artist with his own sound. The album includes contributions from members of the Roots Radics and The Archives, highlighting his unique voice, often compared to that of his father.
The show will be supported by DJ Roots Dawta!
