Special notices: Rocky Dawuni has been nominated for his ‘Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1’ album in the category Global Music Album of the Year. Also, Aaron Nigel Smith has a nomination for his contribution to the All One Tribe Compilation by 1 Tribe Collective in the category Best Children’s Music Album. Also… congratulations to all the artists that have collaborated on the nominated albums with their Nominations!
Just like previous years, social media exploded over this year’s nominations. The main comments: ‘Please create a new category for Dancehall’. The reggae purists just can’t understand why an album by Spice (which is an amazing album and very well produced) is going up for a reggae Grammy. Same counts for Sean Paul’s ‘Live ‘N Livin’ which is also a Dancehall-dominated album. Any which way, if one of those two wins, Sean Paul has one in the pocket!
Also, ‘Why is there no Roots Reggae Album nominated’ is an often-heard comment on the socials. Assuming that people are referring to Ras Teo’s Celestial Rockers album or Meta & The Cornerstones’ Dia album or Alborosie’s For the Culture Album.
Let’s hope the Recording Academy will get a bit more specific in the coming years. We like to congratulate all the nominated artists. Good luck, let’s win that Grammy !
