Internationally acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae superstar, Busy Signal plans to start off the New Year with a bang as he aims to revitalize a perceivably dying genre.
The artiste, whose real name is Reanno Gordon will unveil his all-Reggae album in February 2012, according to his manager, Shane Brown. Busy Signal’s been somewhat absent from the Dancehall scene in recent months a result of work done on the new album as well as a rigorous overseas touring schedule. One of his more recent singles was a remix of Kenny Roger’s classic song, The Gambler, which appeared on the VP Records produced, Reggae Gone Country compilation.
Brown, also a producer for Penthouse Records, revealed that Busy Signal’s album will be unveiled in three months, despite local radio stations choosing to ignore Reggae in recent times.
“Busy is doing a 100 per cent reggae album and Jamaican radio stations throw away reggae music. Collectively, we are in the studio working on this album and finishing Romain’s (Romain Virgo) album too; both of which are due early next year,” Brown told the Jamaica STAR.
The album’s set to feature production from Brown as well as Donovan Germain and Kirkledove amongst others.
Despite the effort, Brown implied that local Reggae fans may ignore the album, in part, because the lack in media attention.
“I don’t expect much of Jamaica because most of Jamaican media don’t support reggae music. It’s a shame that we don’t play reggae music and overseas support it 100 per cent. When local selectors go overseas they can’t play like how they play in Jamaica, dem haffi drop in some Reggae. We throw away the roots so therefore the tree cannot grow,” Brown said.
As for Busy Signal’s lack of local airplay and performances in 2011, Brown insisted that the prominent singjay has done shows across Europe and the Caribbean, including Guadeloupe, Martinique and Dominica. Additionally, Busy Signal will tour Africa, starting on Christmas Day until January.
Meanwhile, Busy Signal currently has some Dancehall songs in rotation such as Caah Tickle Mi, Look Good and New Money, Ol’ Money. His most recent release was a collaborative single alongside Reggae singer, Chevaughn entitled, Those Days.
