Rub-A-Dub Club is a reggae dancehall clubnight initiated by selectors Jumbo Shower en Danny Pepperseed in the Netherlands at Paradiso, Amsterdam. The musical focus of Rub-A-Dub Club is Jamaican music from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s to bring back the vibes from the good old days. July 24 – Rub-A-Dub Club: The Roots Of Dancehall – Prince Alla Live & Direct From Kingston (23.30-04.00)
Because the European tour of Toots & The Maytals has been cancelled, there won’t be a Toots & The Maytals After Party, but instead we have invited legendary Jamaican roots singer Prince Alla to turn Paradiso’s basement into a Jamaican dancehall with us.
Prince Alla began his career as a singer in the group The Leaders. With them he recorded for producer Joe Gibbs and he continued to do so after the group broke up. He used his real name Keith Blake to do some recordings, but ss Prince Alla he recorded a string of roots classics for the Freedom Sounds label such as ‘Stone’, ‘Lot’s Wife’ and ‘Bucket Bottom’. Prince Alla also worked with Tappa Zukie and Jah Shaka. Tonight you can expect to hear his roots classics live and direct in the Rub-A-Dub Club, heavyweight style!
The best ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s selections will be brought to you as usual by Riddim Shower with Jumbo, Kouadio, Ronaldo and Joshwa and Ovadoze Movement with Danny Pepperseed, Kriss and Mr. Scissors. It’s gonna be another ram jam! This time the focus will be on ’70s roots.
