Black Roots – releases new album SON OF MAN January 2016

Over 30 years after Black Roots released their debut album this legendary UK roots reggae band are back in the studio recording and producing new material again. These new songs are powerful and strong. They do not compromise the deep roots sound of the band and continue to deliver that radical message that is their trade mark. With these new songs they have been reborn. They have bridged that gap between their 80’s heyday and now, writing and composing material almost as if they had never left the reggae music scene for a number of years. Their sound is once again delivering ” … powerful messages hand-in-hand with lovely melodies and well-layered arrangements; with thought rather than anger.” Brian Robbins – Jambands.com (15th Nov 2012)

2 years ago, in September 2014, Soulbeats Records, the independent French record label, released some of these songs in a set entitled GHETTO FEEL. And now Soulbeats is pleased to announce the release of another album SON OF MAN, out on January 22nd 2016. It is another set of 11 new songs of tight harmonic vocals, punctuated by strident horns, melodic guitar and keyboard playing laid over a thumping bass and drum section delivering a powerful message. It is another uprising and uplifting collection of full on deep roots. Classic Black Roots that will not disappoint.

Back in the 1980’s they played a militant style of deep roots that is still influencing and driving their music today. That brand of roots reggae drew in people seeking to find a voice that spoke out against the injustices and alienation caused by the pace of political reform introduced in Thatcherite Britain. Black Roots’ uncompromising lyrical content was that voice. That voice is resonating once again as austerity bites the poor, the disenfranchised and dispossessed. Then add to this cauldron the hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the wars being waged in the Middle East and North Africa who are seeking refuge in Europe. Black Roots is speaking out again, calling for and demanding change.

Although the band no longer tour extensively they have played a series of selected live shows both in the UK and the Continent that include ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror curated by Portishead at Alexandra Palace London UK, Glastonbury Festival UK, Lambeth Country Show UK, Garance Reggae Festival France, Dour Festival Belgium, Ostroda Reggae Festival Poland and Reggae Sun Ska France.

Black Roots, with this new album, confirm that they are at the top in their genre of music, leading the way in showing a new generation the origins of roots reggae whist maintaining that authentic sound that their older fans want to listen to. They are still an influential band making explosive music!

Pre-Order the new album here.

This album is how we see the world, it's not about race or creed but to show how unfair it is to the have nots and the unloved. So we hope through the Son of Man? There will be answers from the so the called leaders. Don't let them get away with soft answers, remember the biblical saying, ‘soft answers turn away wrath and a promise is a comfort to a fool.’ We hope the album will shed some light onto the consciousness of the unconscious in the 4 segments of the World. Remember the whole world is Africa, because when the wind blows man should be as free as the birds.

Blessed love from the Black Roots family and peace be with you all.
Love Jah and Live Rastafari.
