Kaya Black releases his new single, a reggae cover of The Commodores hit song “Easy.” Kaya describes it as “My reggae take on a classic by the Commodores”. Kaya has always felt a connection to the single and thought a reggae version would sound great, however, he never acted on the genius idea. While promoting his previous single “Missing You,” Kaya released press photos and fans ironically began comparing him to Lionel Richie and suggested that he cover a Lionel Richie song. Kaya had the perfect song in mind. Although it wasn’t a Lionel Richie song per se, “Easy” was the perfect song to cover.
Kaya stays true to Lionel Richie’s lyrics but adds his own flavorful reggae vibe, riding the smooth riddim produced by Multi-Platinum producer and Grammy winner J-Vibe. J-Vibe has provided riddims for acts like Keyshia Cole, Collie Buddz, J. Boog and more. The song also features a stellar guitar solo by Grammy-nominated producer Tyler Cain. The star studded production is complimented by Kaya’s vocals.
“Easy” was released on October 15th. It premiered at #62 on the iTunes Reggae Chart shortly after being released and is expected to continue climbing. Easy is the follow up to “Missing You” and “Burn From You” which all showcase Kaya’s love for reggae, rock and pop genres.
Kaya’s reggae roots began with his father Johnnie Black, a well respected Jamaican photographer known for capturing iconic Photo’s of reggae legends. It was Kaya’s father that pushed him into pursuing reggae music as a career option. Johnnie was very involved in the early days of reggae and was one of Bob Marley’s photographers. Marley’s album Kaya is also where Kaya got his birth name from, so it’s evident that his reggae roots are very deep.
Kaya’s influences range from Bob Marley and the Wailers to Barrington Levy to Matchbox Twenty and John Mayer, and the range of musical diversity can be heard in his artistic expression. If you are in the mood for some plain old good Reggae music do yourself a favor and tune into Kaya Black’s music I promise you will not be disappointed!-
