Born and raised in the St. Mary area of Jamaica by her(self employed) mother, Jhenell “JQueen” Bailey a.k.a. “J.Q.” is a naturally gifted, conscious, talented singer and songwriter. At 16 years of age, she hopes of changing lives and influencing her generation through the message included in her music.
“A dream written down becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action becomes reality,” says J.Q. quoting Dr. Greg S. Reid. Like many of her favorite artists, she discovered her voice and mission while entering the Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competitions and singing in the church choir (Jacks River community) when she was only 8 years old. J.Q. decided to take her passion to the next level a few years after developing her own craft and talents, with the support of her family and friends. And inspired by iconic voices that she listened to while growing, including Desmond Dekker, Whitney Huston, new school Reggae singers like Chronixx, Kabaka Pyramid and dancehall veteran Ninja Man.
J.Q. is officially beginning her career in Reggae music by the hand of Calibud Music Label, under the outstanding musical production of Sheldon “Calibud” Stewart. Known for upholding his father’s legacy (the legendary Bobby Digital), with recognized hit recordings ft. Sizzla, Capleton, Buju Banton, Gentleman, Richie Spice, Tanya Stephens, Cocoa Tea, Chuck Fenda, Etana, Jah Cure and a long list of stars to which “the young veteran” J.Q. will be joining with her upcoming CaliBud Music debut productions.
Her debut single will release March 12th of 2021 and is entitled “GHETTO MORALS”, a song that values the morals of ghetto life and tries to inspire youths to unify and not to allow themselves to be labeled or belittled for their roots. – “Most of the time it is hard to get a job when you are from the ghetto…isn’t fair, that doesn’t define our morals”.
Clips of her unreleased songs have already captured the attention and social media support from some of Jamaica’s top notch singers of this generation, including Romain Virgo and Indiggnation’s protege, Lila Ike.
Cooked in the well known and legendary Digital B Studio, we will soon be able to enjoy her lyrical skills, bold energy and cultural heritage. J.Q.’s upcoming Debut EP is programmed to release Spring of 2021, including Reggae styles such as New Roots, Foundation and Fresh Dancehall.
