Recording artist Kazayah is promoting her collaboration with reggae star Lutan Fyah titled ‘Coming In Hot.’
World A Reggae caught up with the singer, a first-generation Jamaican-American, who was pleased to share that the joint effort came about organically.
“When I wrote this song I left an open verse with the intention of having a feature. I vibed with the song for a bit contemplating who would fit best. Lutan Fyah is who came to mind and felt like a very solid choice he has been one of my favorite reggae artists for a long time so to be on a song with him really made me happy. We reached out, he liked the song and he made it happen. BriZion, out of San Diego, is one of my favorite producers to work with and he fully delivered on this riddim,” she said.
Released in late August, the track not only highlights the individual talents of Kazayah and Lutan Fyah but also marks a significant moment in reggae music.
She shared that she absolutely adored working with the famed singer.
“It was great working with Lutan—easy. Lutan delivered quickly and efficiently doing what he does best, bringing the fyah. Such a talented artiste,” Kazayah said.
The singer noted that her passion for music was inspired by being surrounded by it at home, and within the church. It’s no surprise that she would have taken a liking to it, since her family members are also musically inclined.
In such a vast industry, Kazayah added that she brings a unique flair that makes her stand out.
“I can say there are a few things that make me unique. I am eclectic, I listen to many different styles of music so you may hear the different influences come out at different times. The content of my music isn’t the message ‘mainstream media’ generally promotes.’ However, I carry a message in the music that are needed right now in life and see many people need and are in search of. Also, within the music and the message that I carry, it’s also about the frequencies and I believe that they are and can be essential tools in healing. I am definitely on the team raising the vibration overall, but knowing that it starts with self, hence the heavy reflective and spiritual essence in my lyrics and sound,” she continued.
As she further success of her collab with Lutan Fyah, Kazayah looks forward to working with Dezarie, Burning Spear, Capleton, and more.
She is encouraging emerging female acts to believe in themselves as they maneuver an intense and competitive space.
“My biggest piece of advice to any emerging artist, especially women, would be to know your why. Why are you doing it and stand 10 toes down on whatever reason that is. You’ll have to believe fiercely in yourself even if people around you do not support or refuse to recognize you. That is when belief in self is imperative. In that process you’ll truly discover if this is your mission or not, ‘it’s not an easy road’ as Buju says. Also, having good people around you that believe in you as well also have your best interest at heart is key,” the singer added.
