Mellow Mood present Pull Up, the first single and preview of their seventh album. The song features Jamaica’s Romain Virgo as a special guest. After a three-year tour supporting 2022’s album Mañana, and having participated in numerous releases by artists from both sides of the Atlantic, Mellow Mood prepare to celebrate 20 years of activity with their seventh album, due in April 2025.
For Pull Up, the Garzia twins alternate in a tight deejay style with a conscious message, while the beautiful voice of Romain Virgo celebrates the positive value of reggae music, as interpreted by a true Jamaican star. The song invites the listener to sing the chorus, then “pull up!” and start it again.
Written to be a reggae anthem with a sparse arrangement, the single is underpinned by the hypnotic interlocking of drums and bass, while the vintage sounds of Hammond and Farfisa organs signpost the sound aesthetics of much of the album. The track introduces listeners to the new approach Mellow Mood adopted for their upcoming album’s production. The band members’ musicianship is now the main focus of the studio recordings, as they embark on a quest for more vintage and analog sounds than in their previous work.
Pull Up was once again mixed by Paolo Baldini, while the mastering was entrusted to English veteran Nick Manasseh.
The video that accompanies the single was directed by Fernando Hevia, a Spanish director who in recent years has established himself in recent years as a key influence on Jamaican videomaking. In the video clip we follow a boy who, riding his bicycle, is handing out flyers to promote the single by Mellow Mood. Suddenly, he meets Romain Virgo on the street.
Pull Up, published by La Tempesta Dub and distributed by Believe Music Italia, is available on digital platforms. The video clip can be viewed on YouTube.
