The Netherlands and Jamaica (MPR Consulting) – This time of quarantine and self-isolation has translated into many creatives working and delivering on some exceptional projects. The latest stellar offering stemming from our world’s current circumstances is the brainchild of Danny Creatah, Founder of this platform Worldareggae.com, and World A Reggae Records, who teamed up with some of Jamaica’s leading musicians to build the FaceMask Riddim.
Having for many decades immersed himself in the Culture, and making Jamaica his second home, Danny who is an avid reggae connoisseur turned to music to fuel his increased downtime, which inspired him on his latest project “The FaceMask Riddim“. “The idea was to ask musicians in COVID-19 quarantine to use the time to build a new riddim different than previously released by World A Reggae productions which were roots riddims, the plan was to build an ‘80s-90’s influenced riddim, with a 2020 touch,” explained Danny.
The project took off after Danny’s conversation with Bassist Michael ‘Megahbass’ Fletcher, who immediately gave his collaboration, knowledge, and time to the project.”It’s an honor to be on the WorldAReggae project to enhance and spread awareness of COVID19 virus, and what better way to do it through music” – Michael “Megahbass” Fletcher.
Michael is currently building his Megahbass agency, MegahBass productions, and his Megah Band. With the bassist covered, it was a no brainer for the World A Reggae founder to ask his good friend Jubba White from Dubtonic Kru & White Stone Productions. Jubba has worked with legends such as the Mighty Diamonds, Max Romeo, U-Roy, and many others. In the studio, he has contributed to the I Swear Riddim that features songs such as Marijuana pon di corner by Richie Spice. Other songs like ready to party by voicemail and downtown girl by D’Angel for champagne records are hit singles that demonstrate Jubba’s versatility as a musician. His band Dubtonic Kru has been awarded Global Battle of the band’s world championship in Malaysia in 2011, a Congressional proclamation from US Congress among others.
Alongside these two remarkable instrumentalists, next is musical wizard and keyboard player Steven “Lenky” Marsden (famous for hits like “No Letting go” by Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul “Get Busy” and “Memories” for Buju Banton and John Legend), who luckily, although he was in the middle of producing Buju Banton’s new album, without hesitation immediately said yes to round-up this special project. Lenky is also set to release his new Special Effects riddim and is currently promoting the Lloyd Parks EP called “The veteran”.
“I got on board with this project because for one the World A Reggae boss called up and asked. When he explained that he wants to do a quarantine riddim with a 80s/90s feel and a nowadays feel and we can express ourselves however we want on it as musicians, mi love that ! This is different, we’re not in the studio together. Jubba deh so fo a fi him yaad in California, worldareggae boss way round deh so inna Europe, me inna Jamaica, we don’t come in contact, mi like that, it’s real quarantine business, our ideas flow, Jubba, Lenky, Fetcha, Worldareggae boss it different !” – Steven “Lenky” Marsden
“Danny Creatah with World A Reggae represents quality & integrity and that’s the path that’s I’d like to think I’m also on, so was easy to partner on this.” – Jubba White
Currently, the “FaceMask Riddim” is in the final stages of mixing and will soon be ready for the next phase which will see yet-to-be-confirmed artists lay their vocals and lyrics. “I am grateful and humbled that I get to know and work with a lot of great artists and musicians through my company World A Reggae. With some of those artists I started building somewhat closer relationships. This is the case with and through mutual respect with Michael Fletcher, Jubba White And Lenky Marsden. Added to their decades of experience in the business, with this riddim we wanted to pay tribute to the original way of creating music. This could be a classic in the making“
