Dubbed one of The Netherlands’ coziest festivals, Rastaplas at the beach of ‘Noord AA’ in Zoetermeer celebrated its 19th edition this year. The festivities kicked off on the Friday evening with performances by The LDE Band (Lucky Dube Experience), Groundation, and Unlisted Fanatic.
Although I couldn’t attend the Friday evening shows, Saturday offered plenty of excitement. The Soundsystem area featured King Shiloh and Rapha Pico, while the main stage saw performances by Surinamese/Dutch reggae star Kenny B, Omar Perry—who continues his father Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s legacy—and the wildly energetic Gentleman’s Dub Club from the UK.
The highlight of the festival was undoubtedly Marcus Gad. Hailing from New Caledonia, Gad is renowned for his spiritually infused music and conscious lyrics, blending traditional reggae with elements of indigenous and world music to promote messages of peace and unity.
Overall, it was another fantastic day in sunny Zoetermeer. Thank you to the Rastaplas organization for the hospitality. Hope to see you again next year!
