Rebelution, Kabaka Pyramid & Keznamdi at the GOOD VIBES SUMMER TOUR. At the Greek Theather, Berkeley, CA. Friday, August 13th, 2021. Pictures by Eye Ree Images for World A Reggae Ent.
There was a buzz. I felt it all day. I had been waiting for this one as soon as it was announced.
Keznamdi was the opener. A fairly underrated artist if you ask me. One who has been churning out hits after hits quietly over the last few years. He didnt disappoint and started the energy off high.
This would be followed by Kabaka Pyramid (video). A wicked lyricist who all but has locked in his place among the best current reggae artists. He brought with him the usual Bebble Rockers but also Flagman Judah…a fixture usually found at the side of Damian Marley.
And this would all be wrapped up like a bow by the California juggernaut that is Rebelution. A band that commands massive crowds anywhere they go and puts on arguably one of the best live shows out there among any genre. And they did it again.
But let’s address the elphant in the room. Covid was causing chaos. Steel Pulse had already cancelled their part of the show and tour. They were to be after Kabaka. And we all were notified that strict checks would be done at the gate for either vaccines or recent negative Covid tests. A norm for this part of the world these days. This would create long lines to get in. But the truth is they moved pretty quick. A small price to pay to see live music again.
And I have to say…it was worth it. Everybody killed it. And the crowd ate it up. There was some energy that needed release. A pent-up steam that needed out. And this show helped to let off some of that steam. We needed it. The world needs it. – Eyeree
